15 May 2019: Vlaardingen-Wageningen-Vlaardingen ride
On May 15, 9 colleagues rode from Vlaardingen to Wageningen and back, covering a total distance of
approximately 250 km. The start was at 8:00 AM and the finish around 19:00. On route there were
a number of join or leave of points, for those that don't want to ride the full distance, but only a part.
The ride was in two big chunks with a one hour lunch break at the Wageningen Campus.
Each of the two chunks had a 30 minutes "coffee-plus" break around the middle.
First stop was at Knus bij Ann in Nieuwegein, where we received a whole cake especialy made for us!
Second stop in Leerdam at Koffie in de bakkerij.

To manage the timings, we anticipated a cycling speed of approximately 27-28 km/h, depending on weather conditions.
A special whatsapp group for the occasion was used to update everybody might timings be missed.

Biking distance to Unilever Wageningen
Unilever R&D Vlaardingen will move to Wageningen, where the new Food Innovation Center (UFIC) is currently under construction.
Some colleagues are considering moving to the area and would like to commute by bike. But... what is biking distance to the UFIC?
A map has been drawn in which contour lines give the actual on-the-road biking route shortest distance, taking into account where can and cannot bike.
The orange dotted line is 15.0 km cycling
The green dotted line is 20.0 km cycling
The blue dotted line is 25.0 km cycling
The red dotted line is 30.0 km cycling
All distances are shortest distance, no ferry's only bridges (if applicable).
The map is complete to the North, the East and the West. It is clipped to the South at around 15.0 km. The South part can be created and mapped out as well, if there is interest send an email to Kees van Malssen.

Functional Threshold calculator
version 1.03.01 ... 23-08-2017
From any power, sustained for a specific time (or: the average power over a period), the Functional Threshold Power will be calculated. The FTP is the power you can maintain for one hour.
Also, for a number of different times, an estimate is given how much power you should be able to sustain for that certain period. An estimation within a certain band between expected minimum and maximum.
The values are valid for an equal level of perceived effort (PE). So a power for "easy" 15 minutes, will translate for "easy" on 1, 2, 6 hours etc.
